| | Reviews | Noda News – Show Reviews Written by Kay Ikin This was an excellent production of the ‘Mikado’ which right from the opening chorus you were confident that you were in for a most enjoyable evening. The set was bright and colourful, although a little unstable in Act II. Costumes excellent, as were lighting and sound. It was good to be able to hear with ease every word spoken and sung by principals and chorus alike. Edmund Hobday was a very good Ko-Ko who coped with a very large snicker-snee with no problems. Shaun Carvill as Nanki-Poo had a good singing voice and I must mention Sylvia Best as Katisha, who played this part to great dramatic effect. The three maids, Lindsey Grant as Yum-Yum, Emma Parker as Pitti-Sing and Naomi Conway as Peep-Bo were all very good and were very strong in the ensembles and it was a shame that Yum-Yum appeared to have an attack of nerves during her only aria as an individual soloist for the singing of ‘The sun whose rays’. I must also congratulate the members of the chorus who supported the principals in every way. A wonderful evening that even the snow that greeted us as we left the theatre could not spoil. | | Cast | |
